Crow Bookshop – Burlington, Vermont

Located in downtown Burlington’s charming Church Street Marketplace pedestrian mall, Crow Bookshop has served as the city’s local, independent bookshop for more than two decades. The shop was opened in 1995 by Keith Terwillegar, who had worked at frontlist stores before opening up Crow, which carries a large selection of new, used and vintage titles.

When stepping off the bricks of Church Street into the charming shop, visitors are greeted with hardwood floors, creative displays, and shop ladders to reach volumes on the top of tall shelves – an ambiance that comes together beautifully to create a classic bookshop vibe.

Divided into two rooms, the 1,800-square-foot shop carries a solid selection of the expected genres at great prices. New adult hardcovers are always discount 20% off the cover price, while most children’s hardcovers are discounted 15%. Used and remainder titles typically sell for around 50% or more off the cover price. Customers can bring in quality used books during specific book-trading times, turning them in for store credit.

A small stage area at the back of the shop has a wooden podium to welcome guest speakers, and some leather chairs scattered about the floorspace invite customers to leisurely peruse their intended purchases.

Friendly staff, an impressive selection, competitive pricing, and a wonderful location ensure that Crow Bookshop should certainly be on your next New England bookstore crawl.

Crow Bookshop is located at 14 Church Street, Burlington, Vermont, and is open daily.
