Glover’s Bookery – Lexington, Kentucky

For more than forty years, Glover’s Bookery has been providing Lexington, Kentucky’s book lovers with rare and vintage volumes. With over 80,000 titles spread across two levels, the shop has an expansive and impressive inventory spanning the genres, including specializations in such subject matter as horses, military history, and Kentucky culture.

The shop, owned by John Glover, has been buying and selling antiquarian books since 1978. A great deal of the inventory at Glover’s is hardback, and there are plenty of maps, prints, and artwork spread throughout the space, which is tightly packed with inventory.

I happened into Glover’s regrettably forgetting my running list of vintage titles that I’m ever in search of, so I was left to browse randomly. I happened across a gem of a find – a signed book of poetry from the 1930s by then-poet laureate of my home state of West Virginia, Roy Lee Harmon.

The shop also offers appraisal services and is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. The staff is responsive to requests, and plenty of the books are available for purchase online.

Glover’s Bookery is located 862 South Broadway, Lexington, Kentucky. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
