Located in beautiful Manhattan Beach, California, {pages} is a full-service independent bookstore carrying a thoughtfully curated collection of newly released titles. Founded in 2010, the shop is owned by four local book lovers – Patty, Margot, Linda, and Sunni – whose passion for books is obvious from the inside out. 

With its prime location in bustling downtown Manhattan Beach, {pages} is surrounded by stylish boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants, where its inviting storefront fits in perfectly. When stepping inside the shop, the owners’ attention to detail is evident in the inviting turquoise walls, adorned with literary quotes from the likes of Garrison Keillor, William Faulkner, and Thomas Jefferson. The colors blend well with the light wood floors, sleek black shelves, and carefully constructed displays of new releases and relevant themes. (I visited during Pride month, so plenty of LGBT books lined the long table in the center of the salesfloor.

{pages} boasts a rather impressive inventory of fiction, non-fiction, children’s, young adult, bestsellers, coffee table books, and plenty more in a relatively small shop, while still managing to feel spacious. Unsure what to read? No worries. Insightful staff picks are peppered throughout the shelves on handwritten notecards.

The shop routinely hosts author events and book signings, story hours, and monthly book clubs with such themes as literary fiction, non-fiction, and mysteries. {pages} also works with area schools to provide more than twenty book fairs each year. Look around the shop, and you’ll likely spot plenty of pre-bundled novels categorized by the appropriate school grade.
