Park Road Books has been a Charlotte, North Carolina, staple since first opening its doors in 1977.
Located in the bustling Park Road Shopping Center, the store is surrounded by plenty of places to shop and eat and keeps customers stocked in books with its large, impressive selection of new titles spanning the genres.
From a large children’s section to impressive selections of bestsellers, contemporary fiction, non-fiction and more, Park Road Books manages a healthy inventory, including a variety of bookish gifts – cards, journals, tote bags, puzzles and more.
There’s even a bookstore dog – Yola – roaming around. (The shop is dog friendly, so bring your well-behaved pup!)
Currently owned and operated by its second owner, Sally Brewster, the shop has been called everything from a Charlotte cornerstone to an icon, and it isn’t difficult to see why. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the selection is vast and varied, and the store is spacious and welcoming for author events, book clubs, or just customers looking for a quiet place to sit for a few moments and enjoy a potential purchase.
Bookish artwork adorns the walls throughout the store. The large seating area in the back of the shop offers plenty of space to sit and read and doubles as an event venue for book clubs and author signings.
Interestingly for a city the size of Charlotte, Park Road Books boasts being the only full-service independent bookstore in the area. Fortunately for visitors, the store is doing what it does well. If you find yourself in the area, it’s a must-visit.
